How Soon Do You Need Our Services?

No pressure, no obligation. We never share your details.

We check the line first

Whether your shingle is still in production decides whether a patch is invisible or obvious.

The whole slope, not the gap

After wind, the shingles either side have usually lost their seal as well.

Told if it will show

Before we start rather than after. Sometimes the better answer is patching a slope nobody sees.

The Problem

Can you just replace the shingles that blew off?

Usually yes. The complication is matching, not labor.

Replacing a few shingles is straightforward while the roof is young and the product is still made. On older Dayton houses the hard part is matching the color. Shingle colors get discontinued. New shingle next to twenty years of weathered shingle shows from the street, even when it is perfectly watertight. Most shingle repairs here follow wind: a gust lifts the tab, breaks the seal strip, and the shingle lies back down looking fine but no longer bonded to anything.

  • The shingle line checked before we quote
  • Told up front if a patch is going to be visible
  • The whole windward slope looked at, not just the gaps

Why Us

A repair that holds and does not shout

Sometimes the right answer is taking shingles from a slope nobody sees and patching that one instead. It is not a trick. It is the only way to make an old roof match itself.

01

Matching is the hard part

Under about fifteen years old and still in production, we can usually match it. Beyond that, color blends have changed and the existing shingles have weathered.

02

Wind breaks the seal

A lifted tab lies back down looking untouched but is no longer bonded, and the next storm takes it. That is why we check the whole windward slope.

03

Count versus pattern

A few gone in one spot is a repair. Losses spread across a slope mean the seal strips have failed generally, and replacing them one at a time becomes a running cost.

The Difference

Why we look at more than the missing shingles

Wind damage is deceptive. A gust lifts a row of tabs, breaks the seal strip underneath, and the shingles drop back down looking completely normal. The two that actually blew away are the visible part of a slope that has quietly stopped being bonded, and the next storm takes another handful.

So after a wind event we go over the whole windward face by hand rather than replacing only what is obviously gone. It is a longer visit, and it is the difference between one repair and four.

After the June 2021 storm we did a run of these across Trotwood, where the wind took tabs off whole windward slopes.

How It Works

How a shingle repair runs

Matched, replaced and hand-sealed, usually inside a morning.

  1. 1

    Send us a photograph

From the ground is fine. It tells us the profile and roughly how old the roof is before we come out.

  2. 2

    We check the match

Line, color blend and weathering. If it is going to show, you hear that before we start.

  3. 3

    The slope gets checked over

Not only the gaps. Anything that has lost its seal gets found while we are already up there.

  4. 4

    Replaced and hand-sealed

New tabs bedded and sealed rather than left to bond on their own through an Ohio winter.

We had a leak over the back bedroom for almost two years and kept putting a bucket under it. The team found the problem in about ten minutes. It turned out to be the flashing around the chimney, not the shingles. They fixed it that same afternoon. I wish we had called sooner.

We had a full tear-off on our 1950s ranch. The crew arrived at 7 every morning and finished the job in three days. They even swept the entire driveway with a magnetic roller so our kids wouldn't pick up any nails. The final price was exactly what we were quoted.

After the hail last June, our insurance company questioned whether the damage was from the storm or simply the age of the roof. The team inspected everything, took detailed photos, and joined the call with our adjuster. The claim was approved. I don't think we would have managed it on our own.

Good work at a fair price. I gave four stars because our job had to be pushed back a week due to rain, and I had already taken the day off. They did call ahead and kept us informed instead of simply not showing up, which I appreciated.

A tree came down on our garage roof at around nine at night. Someone actually answered the phone, which I wasn't expecting. They had the roof tarped before midnight and came back the following week for the permanent repair. Great response when we needed help.

We had new seamless gutters and gutter guards installed around the whole house. They made the gutters right there on site, which I hadn't seen before. We've had two heavy storms since the installation and nothing has overflowed onto the patio. That was exactly the problem we wanted fixed.

I booked a roof inspection expecting to hear that we needed a full replacement because that's what the previous two companies told us. After inspecting it, they said our roof probably had about five years left and told us to call back when the time came. They didn't charge us for the inspection. That honesty is why they'll get the job when we eventually replace it.

This is the second time we've used them. They installed our gutters a couple of years ago, and we recently hired them again for a full roof replacement. We even had the same crew leader both times. The quote was clearly itemized, so we could see exactly what we were paying for, including the wood underneath repairs.

More about Shingle Repair in Dayton

When shingles can be replaced and when they cannot

Replacing a few shingles is straightforward while the roof is young and the product is still made. On older Dayton houses the problem is matching. Shingle colors get discontinued. A patch of new shingle against twenty years of weathered ones shows from the street, even when it is watertight.

We keep offcuts from replacements where we can and we will tell you honestly when a repair will show. Sometimes the answer is to take shingles from a less visible slope and patch that one instead. Where a whole slope has lost its seal strips, it becomes a replacement conversation.

Wind damage is the usual cause

Most shingle repairs in the Miami Valley follow wind. A gust lifts the tab and breaks the seal strip underneath. The shingle drops back down looking fine, but it is no longer stuck down, and the next storm takes it. That is why after a wind event it is worth having someone look at the whole windward slope rather than just replacing the two that blew off. See storm damage repair.

Frequently asked questions

Can you match my existing shingles?

Often, if the roof is under about fifteen years old and the line is still in production. Beyond that, matching gets difficult, color blends change and existing shingles have weathered. We check before we quote and tell you if a patch will be visible.

How many missing shingles is too many?

It is less about the count than the pattern. A few in one spot after a storm is a repair. Losses spread across a whole slope usually mean the seal strips have failed generally, and replacing them one at a time becomes a running cost.
